The Only Constant That Doesn’t Change

In an ever-changing world, everything around us is a constant state of change. In the process of change we can lose things that are very dear to us. Objects can deteriorate and relationships can end. Even our own thoughts and emotions can be in a state of fluctuation. What brings us joy one day can bring despair the next day. Every emotional high comes with a low. Even a romantic love that was once the highest peak of our life can turn into negative feelings, or even become something of indifference.

It is when we finally realize that there is no permanence in the flux of an outside world that the inner journey begins. All religions point to this inner journey and work. In Christianity it is the Christ within you, in Judaism Yechidah, in Islam النَّفْس الْمُطْمَئِنَّة (The Tranquil Soul), and in Buddhism your Buddha-nature.

I call it the Higher Self.

It is our true nature within ourselves and underneath the heavy veil of thought and emotions. It is a state of being that is untouched by anything going on around us. It a state of peace, love, and bliss that does not depend on external circumstances. Instead, it is simply a result of your inner work. Of your ability to dissolve old patterns of thought, emotions, and behavior that are like the heavy clouds that cover up the Sun.
